Flower Pot Chimes

You can paint a flower pot and hang something inside it for it to make noise when you hang it up outside.

You could also paint like 3 flower pots (1 big one, 1 medium one, and 1 small one) and hang them with knots down the rope going through them.  I think they sound like a cow bell :)
They are cute for kids to paint and hang in a tree in the yard.

Pretty Produce!

Let's make flowers!...out of CELERY!

  • Head of celery
  • Card stock paper
  • Paint (red and green usually)
Just cut the celery and dip it in the paint and stamp it! Now you can fold the paper and keep them for cute homemade cards!

Ceramic Tile Coasters

Get some Ceramic Tiles (they aren't expensive)
  • Mod Podge
  • Clear Acrylic High Gloss Coating Spray
  • and paint in a tone similar to tile (for rough backside)
  • You can use photos but I will probably use scrap booking paper with patterns because I know I won't get everyone to bring photos
Trim your photo to the size of the tile but maybe a bit smaller than it.
Apply mod podge to the photo or paper and put it on the tile and let it dry completely. (10-15)
Put another coat on top of the photo or paper and make sure it's even or the lines will show. (15-20)
You should do 3 layers of mod podge allowing each layer to dry before the next.
Then you can spray it with the Acrylic coating spray, that way it's waterproof and can stand wet glasses to sit on it.  You should do 5 layers, also letting each dry before the next.
Then but a piece of felt or some kind of fabric on the back side. Coaster!

Air Dry Clay

Let's get air dry clay from Crayola and let the kids mold something and then paint it the next week, eh?

Glue Batik

Here's a fun one! Glue Batik,
Similar to the wax resistant dying technique.

This glue batik is more for kids.  You use glue instead of wax that would be too hot for them to be careful enough with.

Was thinking we could have the kids do their hand prints.

This is an easy process.  You make the designs with the glue (let it dry) on a piece of cloth (could even do on a t-shirt) and use the colors of paint that you want on them around the design.  With this you could water them down for a washed out effect and even soak them in water when your done.  For brighter, I would just water them a little bit so they spread out on the cloth better and then let it dry like that.  Then you can peel the glue off! Glue Batik!

Jean Pockets

I would like to cut out some pockets from some old jeans for the kids to paint on and even glue things on.  I made one when I was little and still have it.  You might not put much in it but it is a good memory that I have and a fun project to do.  They could turn it into a little coin purse!

Maybe make them for their dad's for father's day??  Not with flowers on them though :)

Getting Closer!

Just got the schedule for the Art for Kids Summer Rec Program in Clear Lake, SD! Every Wednesday (June 6th to July 25th and 1 Monday July 30th) from 1:30 P.M. to 3 P.M.

I will have 25 kids. 18 girls and 7 boys. the kids range from preschool to 4th grade, so this will be a challenge meanings they are all together :/

Am trying to find project ideas compatible for everyone!
